A Kind of Spark

By Elle McNicoll

A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll

She is told she ‘can’t’ so many times; this time, she is told she can’t bring justice to the ‘witches’ who used to live in Scotland. Sharks aren’t dangerous – they just defend themselves when threatened, and this is the same with Addie. Young Addie is autistic, and when she hears about the witch trials that took place many years ago, she knows the wrong accused women weren’t witches: they dared to be different. Her thoughts, however, were unappreciated by various villagers, hence when she put forward the idea to make a memorial for the ‘witches’, she was scoffed. Will she manage to break through the challenges of her task and come out as a different and stronger Addie?
