Maybe 2 or 3 years ago you might not have known who Great Thunberg was, but now, as she is one of the world’s leading environmental activists, it is very unlikely you won’t know who she is.

Greta Thunberg believes she has had the coronavirus, but since her home country of Sweden isn’t testing people unless it is an absolute emergency, she is not sure for definite.

We probably all know Greta for her school strikes for climate change and a lot of you have probably even taken part in one. At the moment she wants people to stay inside and keep safe, however she also wants people to keep in mind that the climate crisis isn’t going anywhere. Greta Thunberg believes the coronavirus is a chance to choose a new path, but why? Well, because of the current circumstances people aren’t moving around and mixing as much so she hopes that in future people will really consider travelling less and think about whether they really need to travel or if they just want to travel. We can only hope that she is right and people don’t go back to their old non-environmental ways.

Here are some things she has said about what she thinks about the coronavirus and our economy:

“We who do not belong to a risk group have an enormous responsibility, our actions can be the difference between life and death for many others.”

“If one virus can wipe out the entire economy in a matter of weeks and shut down societies, then that is a proof that our societies are not very resilient. It also shows that once we are in an emergency, we can act and we can change our behaviour quickly,”

David Attenborough

With his hit show Blue Planet and his help on voicing the climate crisis, he definitely will have something to say about this global pandemic.

David Attenborough is very concerned that the coronavirus is taking our attention away from the climate crisis. Most issues that the world deals with you would normally find on the front page of a news site, and will most likely be talked about but, due to this deadly virus, not many other problems are being voiced.

He also hopes, as Greta Thunberg does, that people will change after all of this, and believes that stopping the amount of mass produced waste is the way to move forward. David Attenborough has also stated that this is just a small temporary virus. Maybe it won’t go away, but will certainly be a lot more controllable in the near future, and that is why it is so important that this virus doesn’t take all the attention away from a climate crisis that certainly isn’t going anywhere.

Here is an Attenborough quote about our world:

“This is the last chance to help stop the biggest problem humanity has ever faced.”

Both of these people are prominent environmental activists and know how serious and uncontrollable this virus is, but they don’t want this virus to detract from the environmental crisis.
