Both the Coronavirus and climate change are world crises that need humanity’s full attention, and could potentially be linked. Both crises have come about through consumerism. This is because the environment is exploited to provide what humans want, (and erroneously think they need). These crises are also happening because people are going to new parts of the world, where no one has been before, and a lot of deforestation is taking place. These habitats are new to humans, and often hold a lot of very contagious viruses that no one has ever heard about. So, when people venture into these new environments, they can come into contact with these viruses, which can be so contagious that they are deadly and highly disruptive to humans. This is why I think that the Coronavirus is connected with climate change, and shows us just how dangerous it can be, when people cut down trees or burn fossil fuels.

An upside however, is that, in my city, I have noticed a big reduction in public transport and car usage over the past few weeks - even though this is because of the very negative Coronavirus, at least it’s helping climate change. My hope is, that once the world emerges from this pandemic crisis, we can start to treat our planet better.
