As the title of this article says, I'm a speedrunner of SMO (Super Mario Odyssey) and that means I play it a lot, trying to shave seconds and minutes off of my best time. As a speedrunner I know almost everything about this game, so this is probably your best review for this almost-3-year-old game. When SMO launched it was met with almost perfect scores from the critics, and those reviews were no lie - when I got my switch with a copy of SMO for Christmas back in 2017, I beat the game in one sitting, right there on Christmas day, that's how much I enjoyed this game when I picked it up.

The main thing that made it so enjoyable was the movement, it took everything good from the previous games, and then added more on top of that. This mainly came in the form of Mario's new companion, Cappy. Cappy allows you to capture enemies and creatures and use their abilities, such as using goombas, to traverse icy areas or by stack them up to reach higher areas. And in addition to that you can bounce off of Cappy on the ground and mid air, which can lead to some crazy jumps such as snow dram.

There are a few things that drag this game down though, most notably the skipping, rc car, volleyball and hint art moons. The first three types of moons are all mini-games that, if you get a certain score, get you a moon. There are always two moons for these - the first one is always easy, but the second ones are insanely difficult, which gets a score of 100 in volleyball and skipping when you get a sub 26 seconds time on the rc car track. Just a side note: the volleyball moon is considered the hardest one in the entire game. Now, hint art aren't difficult just annoying, they show a place in another kingdom and you have to do something like ground-pound a spot or do some fishing somewhere, it's just lazy and annoying.

In summary I love this game and the only things dragging it down were some lazily hid moons, and obnoxiously hard mini-games. This game gets a 9.5 from me.
