I love the Beatles, so here are my rankings of their albums. Enjoy!

13) Yellow Submarine (1969) – I’m sure all Beatles fans can agree on this one. It is by no means a bad album, but when compared to the standard of the other albums, it clocks in at last place. There aren’t any stand out compositions (with the exception of “Hey Bulldog”) and half of the album consists of producer George Martin’s instrumental compositions. In addition to this, only four new songs appear on the album. 5/10

12) Beatles For Sale (1964) – Again, not a bad effort, but a bit bland compared to the rest of their catalogue. “Eight Days A Week,” “Baby’s in Black,” and “No Reply” are a few stand out tunes. A few covers, some forgettable numbers. No bad songs that stand out apart from Ringo Starr’s “Honey Don’t.” 5/10

11) With the Beatles (1963) – A forgettable but fun listen. Like the past two albums, few standout songs, however. “All My Loving” is one of Paul McCartney’s best. There are also some great covers. Nothing much to say about this one to be honest. 6/10

10) Please Please Me (1962) – This album was recorded in one day, and you can tell! The production isn’t great, even for the 60s. Still a great album to listen to, though. This has some of the most popular Beatles songs of all time: “I Saw Her Standing There,” “Love Me Do,” and the title track, also including the best Beatles cover to this day – “Twist and Shout.” For a first effort, not too shabby! 7/10

9) A Hard Day’s Night (1964) – The soundtrack for the 1964 film of the same name. Some great compositions, notably “And I Love Her,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and of course the title track. I’d go as far to say there isn’t a single bad song on the album. Spectacular. 7.6/10

8) Let It Be (1970) – They really saved the best for last – but not really. The last LP released by the Fab Four (but not the last one recorded) undoubtedly has some awesome songs: “Get Back”, “The Long And Winding Road”, “Across The Universe” and of course “Let It Be”. While there were some great pieces there were some not-so-great ones, too. “Dig It”, “Maggie Mae”, “Dig A Pony”- what were they thinking? It's a Shame “Don’t Let Me Down” wasn’t included. 7.7/10

7) Magical Mystery Tour (1967) – The most psychedelic album released by the group. “I Am the Walrus”, “Blue Jay Way”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”. Some great Macca tunes as well “Hello, Goodbye”, “Penny Lane”, “The Fool On The Hill”. And we can’t forget the Lennon-penned “All You Need Is Love”. Only forgettable songs are the title track and the experimental instrumental (cool phrase, right!) “Flying”. 8/10

6) Rubber Soul (1966) – Yes, yes, I’m sorry! It’s a smashing album, but by comparison, it only comes in at #6 for me. It includes my favourite Lennon tune: “In My Life”. Superb. Simply superb. Some great McCartney tunes too, “You Won’t See Me”, “Michelle”, “I’m Looking Through You”, and some more great Lennon tunes: “Norwegian Wood”, “Girl”, “Nowhere Man”. But “What Goes On”? Really?  8.5/10

5) The Beatles (1968) – Otherwise known as The White Album. Includes some bangers. Namely “Helter Skelter”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Blackbird”, and my personal favourite: the chilling “Happiness Is A Warm Gun”. However, this album also contains the two most unlistenable songs they recorded. The goofy-in-a-bad-way “Honey Pie”, and something that appears in my nightmares – “Revolution 9”. That’s what I think hell would sound like. Nonetheless, a good album. 8.6/10

4) Help! (1965) - Their first “great album” in my opinion. I don’t know why, but I just really like the vibe in this one. Of course, the best song is “Yesterday”, but “Help!”, “The Night Before”, “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” are sublime. Not a bad song on the album. Not their best by a long shot, but definitely up there. Really underrated in my opinion. 9/10

3) Abbey Road (1969) - The last album recorded by the group (it was recorded the month after “Let It Be”). And wow, is it a good’un. I’ve said this for a lot of different albums, but there is not a single bad song. Every member pulling their weight, Lennon (“Come Together”, “I Want You”, “Because”), McCartney (“Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”, “Oh! Darling”), Harrison (“Here Comes The Sun” and “Something”- the latter being best song on the album in my opinion). Even Ringo piped up with “Octopus’ Garden”. But the real magic is in the medley. Oh, the medley! Need I say more? 9.8/10

2) Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) – This is THE Beatle album. Oh my gosh. Superb. Superb! Wow. Kicking it off with the title track, going into the Ringo tune “With A Little Help From My Friends”, flowing into the sensationally psychedelic “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, to “Getting Better”, to “Fixing A Hole”… it just works. Perfection. There are some underrated tunes on here – “Within You Without You”, “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite”, “Lovely Rita”. But come on, the best Beatles song ever, “A Day in the Life”, I cannot praise it enough!  10/10

But there is one that I like slightly more…

And that is…

1) Revolver (1966) – Holy Moly. Truly breathtaking. Never heard anything like it. Every song is different. The only thing that “Eleanor Rigby”, “I’m Only Sleeping”, “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “She Said She Said” have in common is who wrote them.  Throw in three thrilling Harrison tunes, some great McCartney compositions, and some lovely Lennon songs and you have yourself the greatest album ever! 11/10
