Many people may have heard of this fantastic new hit game, the latest to come out in the infamous Animal Crossing series. Released on 20th March 2020 in peak lockdown time, this game became a hit with Animal Crossing and Nintendo fans alike!

A special edition Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch could be purchased when the game was released, featuring pastel blue and green joy-cons, and a specially decorated dock with a picture of one of the game's main characters: Tom Nook (and his sidekicks Timmy and Tommy) waving from a deserted island. Unfortunately, only a limited amount were made, so you're lucky if you got one! It's the best-selling game in the Animal Crossing series and second best-selling Nintendo Switch game, and over 22 million units were sold! Now I'll give a brief explanation of what the game is about.

The shimmering blue sea glistens around you and you can feel the soft, powdery, golden, yellow sand between your toes. If this is something you dream of, then New Horizons is the game for you! You start off in the airport, guided by Timmy and Tommy, who are Tanuki (raccoons),working for Tom Nook (a character who has appeared in every single Animal Crossing game from the start). You then chose an island and a look for your avatar, and board a plane to find yourself on a glorious deserted island.

There are six different fruits in the game: peaches, cherries, apples, pears, oranges and coconuts, and you will find that your island will be home to trees of one of these kinds of fruit. When I started the game, my island only had peaches growing, but I quickly grew new trees by planting fruit from other islands! This comes in useful when making bells (the game's currency much like gems etc.), as if you sell your native fruit on another island you will earn a lot of money in doing so. The main aim of the game is to expand your island, completing quests for various in-game characters, and finally the ultimate goal for many committed players is to achieve a 5 star island! This takes a lot of work, including planting flowers and selling land so new islanders (in-game characters) can come and live on your island.

Animal Crossing characters have been popular since the very beginning because of their awesome design and cute voices. If you have friends who also own a copy of the game, you can visit their islands as well, which adds a really nice social aspect to the game! The game also has an educational aspect as well - as in most Animal Crossing titles released, you can catch bugs, fish, dog for fossils and dive for sea creatures in the deep unknown. You can donate these to the Blathers in the museum, who will give you a choice of quick explanations for each of the specimens you bring to him (even though he isn't too fond of bugs!) The game also has real-life scenarios, such as being stung by wasps and paying off your home loan to eventually expand your entire house!

All in all, the game is interactive and you can be as creative as you want, which is why I love the game so much! Here are some things people had to say about the Animal Crossing New Horizons:

"I love how I can create whatever I want, however I want, and every island is unique in its own way!" Amrita

"I love the fact that I can use my imagination!" Kirin

Rating: Five Stars
