I’m Jess and I am isolating in Edinburgh with my sister Juno and our cat, Joe. Its been completely different for everyone, especially compared to the crowded lives we’re used to. It can get boring sometimes, but our parents live in separate houses, so it’s nice to get a change of scene each week.

Our back-garden has become home to a netball stand and swing ball set since lockdown begun and has been the destination of many Jumanji-inspired games including goblins and wolves!

Most mornings I go for a run, to get me energised for the day. Juno is usually still in bed when I get back, but we have soon eaten breakfast and are set up (in separate rooms to avoid arguments!) for school. After lunch we go for a walk now, since the one-exercise-a-day rule was lifted. I have also been doing online guitar and cooking classes with my friends, and athletics Scotland has been hosting virtual races.

I am worried for my grandad who is mortified of hospitals but has somehow ended up in one. I am also concerned for all the independent (and larger) businesses that will be badly affected by COVID-19.

We have a cottage in the highlands, and I am worried for the cafes and pubs that have had to close. However, as bad as the whole lockdown seems, there are some silver linings. I feel that we are closer with our grandparents and relatives now, and everyone is being kinder now. We have also become closer to our neighbours; we’ve been leaving them cakes and we even had a pizza party for the whole street in our front gardens!

Carbon emissions have reduced, and everyone has more time to relax and clear their heads. I hope everyone gets something good out of lockdown!
