As all of you must know, most, if not all countries are on lockdown due to COVID-19. This means that you can’t go to places like schools, work (unless you’re a key worker) and sports venues. So, how are athletes coping? They can’t go to their local leisure centres to train and they can’t see their coaches, but there are other ways that they can stay fit.
A lot of athletes are doing workouts from home, some are doing them on zoom (an app that lets you face time a large number of people at once), and others are working out by themselves. There is also the option of going on runs, walks and cycles. For more advanced athletes, like Olympic athletes, this time must be hard, as the Olympics would have been held this summer, but luckily it has been postponed to next summer. The coaches for all these athletes have a been keeping busy too, by running club Instagram’s and setting fun daily challenges on them, doing zoom calls for the athletes and also taking care of their own health.
There is equipment that you can buy to help you keep up your fitness - you can buy big paddling pools to practice swimming in, and you can buy trampolines to keep up your gymnastics. Even if you are not an athlete, it might be a good idea to try a workout or try going for a run, because you never know, you could end up finding a new hobby while keeping your fitness up!
