As the majority of people who live in Great Britain may know, there is a fuel crisis taking place. So in this article I’m going to explain to you what it is and why it started in the first place.

The reason why there is a fuel crisis is the fact there are not enough lorry drivers to deliver the petrol to the stations. This is because a lot of drivers left the industry because of Brexit and low pay. On average a  delivery driver will be payed £32,000 per year and being a driver means that you have to face long, hard journeys away from home the majority of the time and because of this a lot of people think that they are payed too little and therefore opt out as they also want to spend more time with their family. As a result of Brexit a lot of European drives stopped working in the UK. In addition there are fewer people training to become one, therefore the job is slowly losing workers. Because of the lack of workers, the petrol stations are taking longer to get fuel.

However apparently it has been like this for some time now and the crisis only started when the media overly exaggerated it, causing the population to worry and start panic buying (a bit like at the beginning of COVID but this time with petrol), which is why there are queues stretching all the way down roads by petrol stations and empty petrol pumps. Some people say that this whole crisis was created by the media. Do you agree?

We can do small things such as save petrol and only buy it if we need to, therefore saving it for the people who really need it, so eventually everyone will stop worrying, which will stop the panic buying and the crisis will eventually come to an end.
