Prime minister Boris Jonson announced this week that schools in England will not go back until at least the 8th of March.
Before this announcement schools in England were scheduled to go back after the February half term but the prime minister said that if the vaccination goes to plan then schools will hopefully return by March 8th. The PM said that getting schools back is at the top of the government priority list and he hopes that they can return soon. He has promised that he will give schools a 2 week warning to when they will be allowed to reopen. This extended time homeschooling has come to no surprise to many of us who expected a slightly longer break from school. But there is still no news of the country’s lockdown coming to an end and when the restrictions will be lifted.
The government promised that they will help those behind in their studies because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Free school meals will continue to be given to those who need it.
In Wales the Welsh government said that schools in Wales could return on the February 22nd (just after half term) if the number of coronavirus cases continue to fall.
In Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon (the First Minister) has announced that schools in Scotland will not reopen until mid February which has changed their original plan of returning on February 1st.
Like in England schools in Northern Ireland will not open until at least the 8th of March.
