The big question is, can our oceans, seas and rivers change, after all that the water has been put through?

After decades of our oceans being treated like a public rubbish site - a place to hunt for fish and other sea creatures, and a place where the oil industry has been allowed to pollute and kill sea life - scientists hope and have faith that the oceans could be restored by 2050.

Even though the Coronavirus is a very negative thing, there is a possible positive outcome. As fewer people are visiting our coast lines and beaches , less rubbish and plastic is being swept away into the oceans, helping to clean up and give sea life the chance to recover. Another thing that is helping cut down on the amount of pollution that is being made in the sea, is that less transport is being used. This means that not as much diesel is being made and used, and not as many fossil fuels are being burned, which has a big impact on how much pollution is generated. All these things suggest that, if this is the way the world keeps going even after the Coronavirus, our oceans could possibly be restored, giving us nice clean water again.

Our oceans are very resilient and strong, and can take on quite a bit of what the world throws at them, but us humans have to act now! Researchers reckon that our window for making a change is very small, and we absolutely must to do something when any opportunity is given. The chance is NOW!
