1. Foster Animals: Shelters constantly need people to look after animals and open their home to them while they are waiting to be adopted. If they have too many animals and not enough space to keep them, the ones who are less likely to be adopted will have to be euthanized (put to death humanely). A fosterer looks after animals who are waiting for their forever owner to find them. By fostering an animal who isn't so likely to be adopted you are the reason it's not going to be put down. Fostering saves lives!
2. Make DIY toys to gift shelter animals: Animal shelters are non-profit organisations, they rely solely on people's donations. With a tight budget, it means they spend their money on essentials, not leaving much for toys and leisure. The shelter (and the animals) will be very grateful for them.
3. Donate! Even if it's just your pocket money leftovers, every penny counts! The shelters, animal organisations and fosterers need money to carry on helping animals. You may not be able to foster or volunteer but you can give the thing that shelters really need: money.
4. Volunteer at a shelter. You have to be 16 or over to do this but, for those who are, it's a fantastic opportunity to help animals. You socialise them, feed them, play with them and keep them happy.
5. Spread the word! If you can't do any of the above, there is a simple thing you can do : tell everyone! Maybe you can't foster but your friends could, or perhaps your cousin's great when it comes to DIY. Telling people about what can be done is just as good as doing it yourself!
