As we are at home, lockdown is a great time to read some books, so I’ve made list of stories that you might want to read.
1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling: A magical adventure following the 11-year-old wizard at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Full of brooms, spells, owls and potions. People of all ages will love this book.
2. The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling: A very heart-warming story about a boy called Mowgli who has been raised by wolves in the jungle. If you liked the movie, you’ll definitely love the book. 8 and up.
3. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: One of the best books of the 1980s, this story combines comedy and science-fiction to create a thrilling action-packed adventure. If you liked it, don’t worry, there are four other books to read. 10 and up.
4. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: A prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, this book will transport you to a world of crusades, dragons and wizards. Everyone will love this enchanting story.
5. Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift: A literacy classic, you will find out more each time you read it. It will introduce to the tiny people of Lilliput and the colossal giants of Brobdingnag. 9 and up.
6. The Secret Seven by Enid Blyton: Thrilling crime-solving novel about seven kids called Peter, Janet, Jack, Barbara, George, Pam and Colin. Full of mysteries and things that are not as they seem. 9 and up.
7. Northern Lights by Philip Pullman: An amazing book set in a parallel universe where people have creatures called dæmons that contain the person’s soul. Recommended for people who enjoy adventure. 9 and up.
8. Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden: In the 1940s, two siblings are evacuated to Wales and are taken in by the fierce Mr Evans, then something is done that cannot be forgiven. This book makes you think lots. 10 and up.
9. The Borrowers by Mary Norton: A funny and exciting tale, this book tells the story of the Clock family who live in the nooks and crannies of houses. Great to read for all ages.
10. Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian: Also a WW2 story, this emotional book tells the tale of a strong bond between an evacuee and his host. Warning - you may cry. 9 and up.
