Many of us have grown up reading or watching the book and film series Harry Potter, myself included. This amazing series has seven books and films and it also has an eighth book called “The Cursed Child”, which is a play. The books and play are all written by J.K Rowling, and the director of the films adapted the books to suit them being a film better. This series is all about a young boy called Harry Potter, who is born into a magical world of wizards and witches however Lord Voldemort, the villain of the books, heard of a prophecy where Harry was linked in. Voldemort being scared of death, set out to kill Harry so he would no longer be in any danger. However, this backfires terribly as both of Harry's parents are killed and when Voldemort tries to kill Harry his powers are destroyed leaving Harry with no more than a lightning shaped scar on his head.
After this incident Harry is sent to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, where he grows up sleeping in a cupboard under the stairs, not knowing how his parents were really killed or how he got his scar and also didn’t know that magic existed. However, as Harry grew up he started to notice strange things happening around him, for example he had the ability to speak to snakes and also turned his teachers wig blue! When Harry turns eleven, Hagrid, the Hogwarts game keeper, tells Harry he is a wizard. He starts school at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on the first of September and gets sorted into Gryffindor, one of the four houses. Gryffindor represent bravery and courage. Slytherin also a Hogwarts house represents ambition and resourcefulness. Ravenclaw, my house, represents learning and creativity. Finally, Hufflepuff represents hardworking and loyalty.
At Hogwarts Harry and his friends: Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger learn the art of spells, potions, herbology, flying and astronomy. On the subject of flying the most popular sport in the wizarding world is Quidditch. In Quidditch there are four balls: the Quaffle, two Bludgers and the Golden Snitch. There is also one Keeper that tries to keep the Quaffle out of the three hoops and if the Quaffle goes in a hoop, the team that got it in receives 10 points. There is one Seeker, whose job it is to catch the Snitch, which is a small gold ball about the size of a walnut that can fly and goes at very fast speeds. The game ends when the Snitch is caught and is worth 150 points. There are two Beaters, whose job is to protect the rest of the team from Bludgers which are bewitched balls that can cause great damage. Finally, there are three Chasers whose job is to score points by getting the Quaffle through the hoops. As you can imagine this sport is played on brooms and the longest match was three months!
The place where you can get
everything that you need as a wizard or a witch is Diagon alley. This place is
in London behind the Leaky Cauldron which is a pub only wizards or witches can
see. Here you can find everything you will need, for example a wand shop, a
broomstick shop and a bookstore. There is also a bank in Diagon alley called
Gringotts, one of the safest places on Earth and you would have to be mad to
try and rob it as it is run by goblins that have placed special protections on
most volts so that only goblins can open them. I think we can all agree this
series will be enjoyed by many generations to come. I hoped you enjoyed this,
and I hope you learnt something about the magical world of Harry Potter.
