As you may know, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down from being working members of the royal family on the 8th of January 2020. In this article I will be going over their reasons for leaving the royal family.
Firstly, when Meghan and Harry started dating, Meghan was promised protection, however she did not receive it. Shortly after their wedding, rumours started spreading about her. One of these rumours was that near the time of the wedding she made the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, cry.
Meghan claims she did not do this and, apparently it was actually the other way around, with Kate making her cry. Lots of people criticised Meghan when she was pregnant with Archie, for things that Kate also did... and the press had no problem with, for example, eating avocados and holding her baby bump.
Secondly, according to Meghan, she was not normally allowed to go eat lunch with her friends because of all the rumours about her, and so she rarely left the house.
Thirdly Meghan said there had been concerns about Archie's skin tone in the palace, because of Meghan's mixed race heritage, possibly leading to the fact that the family said that Archie would not be getting a title or security when he was born. All the rumours along with being cooped up and worrying about her and her child's security lead to negatively effecting her mental health to the point where she said,"that it was nearly unsurvivable."
Apparently when Meghan reached out to get help concerning her mental health, she was denied it for unknown reasons. This is horrible, everyone has the right to ask for help.
At the end of the interview Harry came along and told us his opinions on the situation. He said he was scared history was going to repeat itself, referring to the death of princess Diana, his mother, happening to Meghan. He also said when he was a part of the royal family he was trapped, in a way, although he did not realise, like everyone else currently in the family, in his opinion.
Questions that remained to be answered are was Meghan a victim of racism and bullying by the royal family or is she just a very good actress? It seems unfair that the royal family were not able to give their point of view and defend the allegations made against them. However one positive result from this interview is that Meghan raised awareness of mental health issues, which will hopefully help many people.
