In the first lockdown the aviation industry was at an all time low. With the only planes to be found at UK airports cargo and freight aircraft carrying PPE and other different deliveries around the world but there were very few commercial aircraft still flying in our UK skies and the one I am focusing on is the British Airways flight BA1442 from London Heathrow to Edinburgh. I flew on a similar flight BA1445 which restarted in June 2020 but for now lets focus on BA1442. Why was this flight still going on? Before the collapse of flybe, Edinburgh Airport's most popular route was from London Heathrow mainly for business people working down south and people getting a connecting flight to places like the USA and Europe. This flight was probably continued because it's the main route from Edinburgh Airport and some people maybe would still have to travel for essential business work.

So this flight is still going on in lockdown 2 with a couple other flights but now we know why it's there and how essential the Edinburgh to London Heathrow route really is and it's understandable why it continued even though how limited the passenger numbers are. Let's hope the airport has more flights in the near future!
