Many people have heard of “Veganuary”, Vegan January. A brave few might even have tried it! One of my friends tried it and loved it - so this year I thought I’d give it a go. By the time I’d made my decision though, it was nearing the end of January and I didn’t want to wait a whole year - so I spent all of February planning a “Veg-March”
I was quite pleased with how I did. I discovered so many new and exciting foods and plant-based alternatives to my usual favourites - I can now make healthier and more environmentally friendly choices and still enjoy what I am eating.
I did start to struggle towards the end of the month, and there was a point when I did eat a small amount of dairy. After that, it became more difficult – I began to have a little animal produce most days but I didn’t eat any meat or fish.
In summary I am very pleased with my efforts. I didn’t think I would manage as well as I did but I surprised myself and my family. I am no longer vegan or vegetarian but I do find that I eat considerably less meat and fish than I did before, which makes a difference both to me and to the planet!
