On Wednesday 9th November, Nintendo streamed an Indie World Showcase event featuring all the new Indie games coming out this winter and later into 2023. Here is a run-down of every single game that was announced:

-         Venba - This is a cosy cooking simulator with a meaningful storyline. You follow an Indian family coming to Canada in the 1980s and learn to make lots of wonderful South Indian dishes and even restore lost family recipes. This will be  out in Spring 2023.

-          Goodbye World - This is a pixel art story game which follows two friends who want to create a retro puzzle platformer. You explore the ups and downs of game development and even get to play some of their early game demos. This game is available in November 2022.

-          Have A Nice Death - A roguelike platformer where you play as the character of Death which means this game has a unique spin to it -  you can’t die! There are 7 weapons and spells to choose from and plenty of upgrades to keep you playing for a long time! This will be released on March 22nd, 2023.

-          Aka - This is a relaxing open world game based on an isolated island where you play as a revived warrior and explore many environments which the world has to offer. It also features game mechanics such as farming, crafting and building shelters. There are even dragons included! This comes out on December 15th, 2022.

-          Pepper Grinder - Another Devolver Digital title, this is a puzzle platformer where you play as a treasure hunter reclaiming stolen treasures. There are many collectibles for you to hunt down, puzzles to solve and upgrades to make for your tools. This comes out at some point in 2023.

-          Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly - This is the sequel to the well-reclaimed Coffee Talk which is a cosy game must-have. You work in a coffee shop which stays open all night and you listen to the stories of your customers with a chill Lo-Fi soundtrack in the background. It also doubles as a coffee-brewing simulator, meaning you can go wild with Latte art and various coffee types. This hits the web in Spring 2023.

-          Oni Road to Be the Mightiest Oni -  This game has a Japanese theme and is about a warrior who joins forces with a spirit on an island. You, as the player, control both characters in order to destroy demons with some being invincible. The only choice you have here is to run away from them. March 9th, 2023 is the release date.

-          Desta: The Memories Between - This is a roguelike metaphorical ball game where you can perform trick shots. When the characters you play as, fall asleep, they revisit past memories. They can learn new abilities too. It also features a fully voice-acted character cast which is a nice touch. It will be released in early 2023.

-          A Space for The Unbound - Set in rural Indonesia during the 90s, this follows a young couple who must fight back an evil entity in order to save the world. It has a pixel art style and is a unique love story. It is available on January 19th, 2023.

-          Dordogne - In this title, you follow Mimi, a young woman in search of her forgotten childhood memories. It is an emotional journey where she returns to her grandma’s home and finds letters from her past. It has a hand drawn art style and a unique spin which allows you to play in the past and present. It will be out in Spring 2023.

-          Botany Manor - You are a retired botanist who inherits your very own manor. There, you solve puzzles by working out where to plant seeds and looking for clues. Readily available in Spring 2023.

-          Once Upon a Jester - You join a travelling theatre group in order to steal diamonds. Each theatrical performance is different, so you have a different experience each time you play the game. This game is out now!

-          Rogue Legacy 2 - This is a roguelike game where each playthrough is different. It is a sequel to the first Rogue Legacy game and the Nintendo Switch version includes the Fabled Heroes update DLC. This game is out now too!

-          Blanc - Previously shown off at the partner showcase in summer, this is a black and white puzzle co-op game where you play as a wolf cub and a fawn who have been stranded after a snowstorm. You must traverse obstacles whilst following a story. The game is also text-free meaning it can be played by anyone. It comes to Nintendo Switch on February 14th 2023, as a console exclusive.

The next few game announcements were included in a montage with not much information about them, so I have listed these below:

-          Wrestlequest - May 2023

-          Wobbledogs - Console Edition - November 17th, 2022

-          Storyteller - March 23rd, 2023

-          World of Horror -  Summer 2023

-          Curse Of the Sea Rats -  Early 2023

-          Inscryption -  December 1st, 2022

-          A Little to The Left - This is a puzzle organisation game where you solve satisfying puzzles by reorganising and sorting household items such as cutlery drawers and other belongings. It also features a cat character who constantly tries to steal the items you are sorting out, but it does let you stroke it so its quite lovable. There are 75 puzzles to solve in total. To me, this game is very similar to another indie title known as Unpacking. The game is playable now!

-          The final announcement of the event was Sports Story, the highly anticipated sequel to Golf Story which came out very early on in the Switch’s life cycle. This game had already been announced a while back, but the unspecified release date of December 2022 was finally revealed. You can play a variety of sports including football, golf, and tennis. You also can unlock BMX biking, mini golf, volleyball, and cricket later. There are also added dungeons and plenty of exploring to be done whilst you’re not on the pitch.

Overall, this was an excellent Indie World Showcase with lots of exciting upcoming games set to be released in the next couple of months.
